Confession
August 29, 2003
I've been thinking a lot about the ancient practice of confession lately. In fact, I even started a thread on TheOoze entitled, "The Power of Confession." When I came across this painting, it really grabbed my attention. Be careful! The artist's intended message may be deeper than you realize.
so are those burdens falling onto the confessor, or floating off
of his back?
and is that money falling from the sky?
you've got me puzzled, DP.

From the rich storehouses of Christ's sufferings the Priest dispences the grace of forgiveness to the burdened. The Priest is the ontoligical connection to the reality of forgiveness and is the sacramental medium of grace, an "Alter Christus" standing in Christ's place as His representative. Good Catholic teaching- Part of what we have to recover. Hopefully after 500 years we are ready to get rid of latent Romaphobia and unearth some of the treasures hidden there.
Interesting picture.

What do You think about talking with God, not in preyrs, but real talk, like two humans, but in our hart, with pure love?

2 years later, i see this picture differently.
the big heavy burdens on the layperson become light when given to the priest. they almost float.
