Anna Aven: Locating the Narrative in Pop Culture

AnnaAvenTeaching2Emerging Ecclesiology meets Paradoxology.

That's right! Our Paradox community was treated to the amazing insights, academic prowess, and winsome personality of Anna Aven. Her topic? "Finding the Story: The Use and Misuse of Narrative."

Anna did an outstanding job of getting our faith community to think more critically about this important topic and was very effective at integrating illustrative clips from two popular movies: Big Fish and Mona Lisa Smile.

AnnaAvenChrisHere's a clip of Anna's opening remarks.

I also photodocumented Anna's visit with a some additional shots here, here, and here.

Wow, I said "um" like 15 times in that clip! I'm not usually that bad! Hope I didn't do that all the way through... :-P

And the commenting is still being weird... we should yell at typepad. Thanks for the kind remarks in your post. I totally had fun.

I am sooooooo jealous! Two of my favorite blog-friends in the same place at the same time... I would have loved to have been there, guys!

When my family and I get to Pasadena, we'll have to invite y'all to a barbeque at our house. Assuming you can handle the four little Theologs playing at your feet. =)

Sounds great! Roughly, when do ya think that'll be, Daniel? My wife and I LOVE Pasadena -- she worked there for 9 years...AND...it's home to my all-time favorite book store: Archives!!

Well, we're leaving here at the end of October, and we're planning on starting school in January 2005. We'll probably spend some time with our families in between, but we need to get to Cali early enough to find a place to live and get settled in before school starts. So we'll probably hit the ground sometime around the end of November.

That's assuming I can find a job near enough to Pasadena to allow me to commute to school. If not, all bets are off.
