"Twas the Week After Christmas
Don't Shoot the Wounded

On My Mind...

Here are some of the things I keep thinking about of late:

  • My mother-in-law's cancer (it took a turn for the worse over Christmas).
  • The candidates that I've begun interviewing for the associate pastor opening here.
  • The "Minstral" harp my wife and I are learning how to play.
  • Tomorrow night, we'll be observing the Epiphany at a special worship gathering.
  • My upcoming trip to Acapulco, Mexico (a little R&R).
  • That perhaps as many as 33% of my generation (Busters) may be postmodern in the way they view the world, etc.
  • That I'd better get on the stick and post some follow up pieces on the Ancient Evangelical Future conference I attended last month.

Blessings,
Chris

Just found your site and the articles are very interesting. I'd like to hear more about McLaren's use of 'redeeming narrative' as opposed to metanarrative -- something you just mentioned on a previous post on the AEF conference. Did he get into depth on that?

sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. I will included her in my prayers.

You need a pensieve :/...if only there were such a thing!

I'm sorry to read about your mil's cancer... :(

Glad you stopped by and posted. Brian didn't expound on the "redeeming narrative" vs. "metanarrative" topic as much as I would liked, but nonetheless, his simply introducing the idea to conference attendees was thought-provoking and generally received well. In part, Brian explained the danger behind Christians claiming to possess a metanarrative, because such a thing would override all other narratives; Brian sees this as a "power-elite" issuem, and as such, something that followers of Christ should definitely avoid (due to past abuses of power by "Christians"). Hope that stimulates some more thoughts, and if so, be sure to post them here!

Blessings,
Chris

Seraphim,

I used the pic simply because I liked it. It seemed to jump out at me and say "use me!"

Hey, I'm definitely praying for you and the family, my friend.

Blessings,
Chris

Robin,
I think you're right... I DO need a pensieve! lol

blessings,

Chris

Danger? Danger in doing what Christ actually commands us to do? preach the Gospel? What is your attraction to this snake oil sales man Chris?

Wikipedia says this about metanarrative:

"Many Christians believe that human existence is innately sinful but offered redemption and eternal peace in heaven - thus representing a belief in a universal rule and a telos for humankind. "

The Gospel of Jesus is very singular. Jesus is The way. Not 'a' way.

I don't get it.

So how is the interviewing going?
Benji emailed me the other day on Myspace.
Praying for you guys out there in Barstowland...

I love that idea of "redeeming narrative" vs. "metanarrative", and describes exactly how I have been feeling lately.

Seraphim, those who sound so sure and absolute about their faith as you do, frighten me.
